Using arts for Sexual & Reproductive Health & HIV/ AIDS promotion
The workshop examines the use of culturally appropriate / specific methods for providing information and raising awareness on issues related to Sexual & Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS. This is suitable for organisations wishing to develop Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials, media strategies, or programmes of work incorporating the arts. It incorporates the learning from previous workshops and explores the mainstreaming of information through the media of arts.
Introduction: Defining the concept of 'arts for education'. Why use the arts? What is our understanding of arts?
Cultural: What is our understanding of culture? Why does any initiative need to be culturally appropriate and culturally sensitive? Identifying specific target groups. Working with cultural norms and cultural taboos.
Developing promotional initiatives: What sort of media tools / awareness raising initiatives can we develop? How do we ensure initiatives are culturally appropriate and cost effective? Identifying production needs for arts based prevention initiatives and increasing access and participation. Developing strategies / information materials for our campaign.
